3 sentenced to death for killing housewife in Cumilla

A court in Cumilla on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for killing a housewife at Meghna upazila in the district in 2016.

Cumilla District and Sessions Judge Md Helal Uddin handed down the verdict this morning.

The convicts are Sumon and Rakib, residents of Shikirgaon area, and Tasir, a resident of Manikachar area in the upazila.

One more accused in the case was acquitted as the allegations brought against him were not proved.

The victim was Jamila, wife of Abdul Hakim, a resident of Manikachar ara.

According to the prosecution, Jamila went missing from the house on June 20, 2016. After that, police recovered the body from an agricultural land nearby the house after five days.

A case was filed by the victim's husband with Meghna Police Station accusing four people.

Later, police submitted a charge-sheet against the accused to the court.

Zahirul Islam Selim, public prosecutor of the court, said the convicts confessed that they killed the woman to rob earrings and money from her.
