Sylhet City Corporation's newly elected Mayor
Anowaruzzaman Chowdhury and all the councils have officially assumed
responsibility.
Outgoing Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury handed over the
responsibility to the newly elected Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury at the mayor's
office at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday around 3:30 pm.

Minister Imran Ahmed MP was present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, outgoing Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury
congratulated the newly elected Mayor Anowaruzzaman Chowdhury and announced
that he would always extend his hand of cooperation in the development of this
spiritual city.
Anowaruzzaman Chowdhury also wished him farewell and
expressed his hope to get advice and assistance in necessary cases in the light
of his experience.
Senior officers and employees of Sylhet City Corporation
and Awami League leaders along with wives and children of outgoing and newly
elected mayors were also present.
Earlier, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anowaruzzaman
Chowdhury visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) on the eve of assuming
office.
He reached the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) along
with the party leaders around 2:30 PM.
Bangladesh Awami League Organizing Secretary Shafiul
Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Sylhet District Awami League Treasurer Shamser Jamal,
Councilor Azadur Rahman Azad, Sylhet Metropolitan Jubo League President Alam
Khan Mukti and newly elected councilors were with him. The newly elected
councilors of Sisik also visited the shrine. Later they participated in a
special prayer.
Meanwhile, Anowaruzzaman Chowdhury while talking to the
media once again asked for prayers and love of Sylhet residents.
He expressed his gratitude to the people of Sylhet and
said, I am blessed with everyone's love. The people of Sylhet elected me as
their mayor and sent me to Nagarbhaban. Today I will take responsibility. On
the eve of starting my journey as mayor, I want everyone's prayers and love
once again.
Sylhet City Corporation election was held on June 21.
Awami League candidate Anowaruzzaman Chowdhury was elected mayor. However, the
current mayor and BNP Chairperson's adviser Ariful Haque Chowdhury did not
stand as a candidate in this election following the party instructions.
Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury took oath as
mayor on July 3. He assumed the duties of mayor about four months after taking
the oath.
