Three women of a same family died being electrocuted in Narayanganj city on Thursday.
The incident happened at Deobhog Akhra area in the city at about 12:00 noon during rain.
The deceased were Ranjit Ghosh's wife Bimala Rani Ghosh, 52, Nikhil Ghosh's wife Basanti Rani Ghosh, 42, and Rupok Ghosh's wife Moni Rani Ghosh, 38. They were sister-in-laws.
Family sources said the collapsible gate of the house got electrocuted during the rain from a live electric wire. At that time, Bimala Rani touched the collapsible gate to wash the floor of her house. Instantly, she got electrocuted. Assuming that Bimala Rani fell sick suddenly, two other sister-in-laws rushed to hold her and they also got electrocuted.
At that time, other members of the family and neighbours shut down the electric lines of the house and rushed three housewives to Narayanganj 100-Bed (Victoria) Hospital where an on-duty doctor pronounced them dead.
Narayanganj 100-Bed (Victoria) Hospital's medical officer Dr Nazmul Hasan said three women of a same family were brought at the hospital after they got electrocuted at Deobhogh area. They died before they were brought at the hospital.
Sadar Model Police Station's sub-inspector Sirajul Islam said, "The relatives took the bodies of three housewives to home. Power lines in the area have been shut temporarily. We are investigating the matter."
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the entire area due to the death of three housewives from electrocution. A tragic situation occurred due to the wailing of the relatives.
