Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a person along with 17 smuggled gold bars weighing 1.985 kilogram at Rudro border in Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Friday.
The arrestee was identified as Montaz Hossain, 45, son of Deen Mohammad. He hails from Putkhali village of Sharsha upazila.
Members of BGB 21 nabbed him from the area at about 11:00 am. Lt Col Tanvir Rahman, commander of 21 BGB Battalion, said intelligence information led to the arrest and seizure of the gold bars.
Montaz was carrying the gold in various parts of his body and the value of the gold is around Tk2 crore, he said.
Later, BGB handed Montaz over to Sharsha Police Station.
