Customs intelligence has arrested one person with 566 grams of smuggled gold at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
Md Rafiqul Islam came from Dubai to the Shah Amanat airport by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
He took permission to bring two gold bars and paid Tk 40,000 tax for the purpose.
However, National Security Intelligence and Customs officials challenged him following suspicious movement.
The officials found presence of more gold bars in the body of the Rafiqul and recovered the precious metal therefrom.
Hailing from Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni, Rafiqul carried four gold bars weighing 466 grams, ornament of 100 grams of 24 carat gold, 15 cartoons of cigarette, cosmetics, chocolate, and other food items.
A case was filed against the arrestee in this connection.
