A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested eight people in connection with the murder of former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Waliullah Rubel.
The arrest made on Saturday night at different areas of the capital, said DB chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.
The arrested are Md Shahjalal, 37, Rafiqul Islam, 38, Nur Alam, 42, Sumon Mir, 28, Habib Ahsan, 22, Alif Hossain, 21, Rabiul Sani, 21, Mehedi Hasan, 19, Adnan Asif, 20 and Md Shakil, 20.
DB seized a private car, two motorcycles and recovered two machetes from their possessions.
Rubel, 36, was a candidate for the general secretary post of Jubo League in Ward No. 12 under Shahjahanpur Police Station.
He came under attack around 1.45am on Friday (July 21) on his way to home. He was then hacked to death by a gang of miscreants.
