A former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official has died in police custody in Chattogram's Chandgaon, the family alleged.
Deceased Sayed Mohammad Shahidullah, 65, was former deputy director of the ACC.
Shahidullah's son Captain Nafis Shahid said, "At 11pm on Tuesday, two assistant sub-inspectors of Chandgaon Police Station took my father to police custody. My uncle also went to the police station as my father had heart problem and he needed an inhaler and medicine. But police members locked the main gate of the police station. Later, around 12 midnight, they took my father to the hospital. I was in Dhaka."
Chandgaon police claimed that deceased Shahidullah was arrested following an arrest warrant issued by a court.
Another son, Asif Shahid said that police were pulling his father out by the collar of his shirt, without showing the minimum respect.
"He (Shahidullah) was taken to Parkview Hospital within 15 minutes of his arrest as he fell sick. Physicians at the hospital declared him dead on arrival," said Chandgaon Police Station’s OC Khairul Islam, claiming that no misconduct was done with the victim when he was inside the police station.
