Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday detained a man and seized five pieces of gold bars, weighing 583 grams, along Darshana border in Chuadanga district.
The detainee was identified as Md Salim, 33, son of Rawshan Ali of Nilukhi village in Homna upazila of Cumilla.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB conducted a drive along the bordering area around 9am and detained Salim, said Maheshpur-58 BGB battalion director Lieutenant Colonel Masud Parvez.
Later, the BGB men seized the gold bars searching his body.
The value of the seized gold bars is Tk 48.50 lakh.
The detainee has been handed over to Darshana Police Station, he added.
