At least five people have been killed and 30 others recived burn injuries as an oxygen plant in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district caught on fire after an explosion on Saturday.
The number of casualties is expected to rise.
Firefighter Fazle Rabbi of Sitakunda Fire Service Station confirmed the matter and said that an explosion occurred at Seema Oxygen Plant in Kadamrasul area around 4:30 pm on Saturday (March 4).
Four fire service units from Sitakunda and Kumira Fire Service Station are working to control the fire, he said.
Amjad Hossain, a resident of that area, said, 'Suddenly a massive explosion occured in this area which shook the surrounding areas.'
Earlier, on the night of June 4 last year, a terrible fire occurred at the BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda. In that incident, half a hundred people were killed and hundreds were injured.
