The police have arrested the notorious robber Md Al Amin in the case of robbery of around five and a half lakh taka from two NGO workers in the Brahmaputra river of Jatrapur Union of Kurigram Sadar. However, the police alleged that the family members of the accused are obstructing the investigation of the case. Kurigram Sadar Thana Police confirmed the matter today Thursday (January 11) morning. Police arrested him after 7 long months. According to the case and statement, it is known that last 6 months ago Two workers of BRAC's Jatrapur branch of Kurigram Sadar, on their way back after collecting small loan money, stopped the boat in the middle of the river and killed two BRAC workers. Al Amin along with three others ran away after robbing around 6 lakh rupees. The accused was absconding since the incident. Later, the police conducted a long search and arrested the main accused, Al Amin. He is currently in Kurigram Jail in that case. Al Amin is a resident of Kalir Alga area of Jatrapur Union. He has another drug case against him in Gaibandha district along with drug smuggling. Locals said Al Amin has been doing various crimes including drugs in the area for a long time due to local and family influence. At that time the case was filed by BRAC's Jatrapur branch manager Md. Golam Mostafa. The officer investigating the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station Zahid Hasan said that Al Amin, the main accused in the Brahmaputra river robbery case, was arrested on election night. He is currently in jail. Since his arrest, his family members have been obstructing the investigation. Which is very sad for the police. District Coordinator of BRAC Syed Fahid Hasan said, two of our field workers collected loan money from Char in Jatrapur and on their way back, the robbers stopped the boat in the middle of the river and robbed about five and a half lakh taka. Later we filed a written complaint at Sadar police station. After a long time, the main accused was arrested by the police in view of that complaint.
