Police started handing over the bodies of 11 victims of the road accident in Mirsharai upazila to their relatives without post-mortem on Friday night.
The accident occurred at around 1:45pm at the unmanned level crossing near Bara Takia railway station, said Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirsharai police station.
Police took this action in view of the written request of the relatives of the deceased, said Chittagong Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Hasan Chowdhury.
He told Bangla Tribune: “As it was a road accident, police started handing over the bodies of the deceased to their relatives.”

Earlier, the bodies were recovered from the spot and brought to the police station.
On Friday evening, police detained Saddam Hossain, the gateman of the crossing, in the incident, said Chittagong Railway police OC Md Nazim Uddin.
Earlier in the afternoon, the railway authorities formed a five-member probe committee, led by Divisional Transport Officer of Railway (Eastern Region) Ansar Ali, to investigate the incident.
According to OC Kabir, the Chittagong-bound Mahanagar Provati express rammed into the microbus, dragging it several hundred metres down the railway track.
“Among the microbus passengers, 11 were killed on the spot while the rest five were badly injured in the incident,” he added.
The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
