5.6 magnitude earthquake felt in Noakhali

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake was felt across the country including Noakhali from the source of Ramganj in Comilla region. This earthquake originated in Ramganj, Comilla region, 86 kilometers away from Dhaka at 9:35:33 on Saturday, December 2.

Arzul Islam, observer of Noakhali Meteorological Office, said that the magnitude of this earthquake is medium on the Richter scale.

The entire Noakhali was shaken by this earthquake which lasted for a few seconds. It spread panic among people. Many people came out of the house. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) and US Geological Survey - USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was 45 km southwest of Comilla and 8 km northeast of Ramganj in Laxmipur. Its depth from the surface was 35 km. Its magnitude was 5.6 on the Richter scale.

10 mild and moderate earthquakes have occurred in Bangladesh so far this year. Although there is not much loss of life and property, experts are getting a glimpse of a major earthquake.
