BNP leaders said today (9 September) that the party men have no other choice but to stay on the field until the government is ousted.
"We will not remain calm if our peaceful programme is interrupted. The government wants to stay in power endangering BNP leaders and activists in various ways. So you [party men] have no choice but to stay on the field until this government is brought down," BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said during a rally in front of the party headquarters this afternoon.
"There is no time left for this government. They will fall," he added.
The BNP's north and south city units gathered in the capital to hold separate mass processions as part of its one-point movement to mount pressure on the government to step down and hold the upcoming elections under a caretaker government.
The party men started arriving in the city around 1:00pm on Saturday (9 September) and started the processions at 3:50pm.
Speaking as chief guest, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called on party activists to be careful against the "fascist" government
"The government must be defeated at any cost. There may be an attack on the minority community of this country," he said,
Alleging that the ruling party are the ones who attack the minority community and blame it on leaders of the opposition party, the BNP secretary general urged all to be united and alert implying such circumstances might arise again.
"People of the country are united today regardless of party affiliation. Everyone should unite with courage and strength to defeat this government," he said.
"You [BNP] are suffering in the rain. It will become more difficult. However, this government will be defeated and a people's government will be established in the country," he added.
The Dhaka North BNP started its procession this afternoon at Rampura's Better Life Hospital.
It will pass Abul Hotel, Malibagh Railgate, Mouchak, Malibagh Mor, Shantinagar, Kakrail and Nightingale before ending in front of the BNP's central office at Nayapaltan.
In the meantime, the Dhaka South BNP started its procession at Kamalapur, which will pass Pir Jangi Shah Mazar, Arambagh and Fakirapool intersection.
