Every day, if you look online or look at the pages of newspapers, you can see the news of various crime trends. As a result, Punyabhoomi Sylhet has suddenly become unstable. Murders, rapes, fights and quarrels have increased. Relatives are dying in the hands of relatives. Social analysts and Islamic experts blame the decline of religious and social values ​​in this situation.
They say - Family and social violence and instability have increased at an alarming rate in Sylhet recently due to various reasons including loss of mutual affection, marital discord, torture and immoral relationships. Above all, there is no problem of religious discipline in the society - that's why such incidents are happening in Sylhet.
Last Tuesday (March 5) in Fenchuganj, Sylhet, a young man was hacked to death by his opponents in a filmy style. Zahedul Islam, the Balaganj representative of Sylhet Weekly Varsityam, who was injured in this incident, has been sent to Dhaka in critical condition.
4 murders, 3 suicides, 2 rapes occurred in Sylhet division on 5 days of this month. Besides, one body was recovered after 3 days of drowning. He went to India to smuggle goods.
March 1: In the morning of March 1, a man named Makhlish Ali (52) died after being beaten up by security guards on the suspicion of being a thief in Sarpar Bazaar of Muria Union of Biyanibazar Upazila of Sylhet. Son of deceased Amir Ali of Sarpar village of Makhlish Upazila. He lived a wandering life for several years. His wife along with 5 daughters and 2 sons lived in her father-in-law's house. Although a case was filed later in this incident, no one has been arrested so far.
March 2: Suma Akhtar (31), daughter of Taleb Ali of Tilagarh village, committed suicide by hanging herself in Tilagarh village of Tilagarh union of Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar at 7 am. Later the police came and recovered the hanging body.
It is known that Suma Akhter got married to Nurul Islam, a resident of Balaganj upazila of Sylhet, 4 months ago. But since marriage she is living in her father's house. Recently there was no relationship with the husband. That's why her husband divorced her. Suma committed suicide after hearing about the divorce. The body of the Chhatra Dal leader was recovered on the same day. On March 2, the body of a Chhatra Dal leader was recovered in a sack from the Karangi River flowing by Pail Union of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. He is general secretary of Satkapan Union Chhatra Dal of Bahubal Upazila in the district Saiful Islam. Saiful is the son of Abdul Malik of Rasulpur village of Satkapan Union. He went missing 5 days ago. On the same day, a mentally challenged girl was raped on March 2 in Chunarughat of Habiganj. Against a young man named Ala Uddin (30). March 3: The fire service and police recovered the body of a young man named Sohail Mia (38) hanging from an advertisement signboard under Keen Bridge in South Surma, Sylhet at 9 am on March 3. He was a vegetable trader. Sohail is the son of deceased Akbar Ali of Aiyanagar village of Ramganj police station in Lakshipur district. Locals said he lived in Bharthakhla area of ​​South Surma and was addicted to drugs.
According to the police, initially it is believed to be a case of suicide. Early in the morning, passers-by saw the body hanging from an advertisement sign under the Keen Bridge and informed the police. When the police came and informed the fire service, they came and lowered the body with a crane. Sohail committed suicide by hanging himself with his shirt. However, it is not yet known why he committed suicide.
On the same day, a rape incident took place in Juri. On March 3, a maid was accused of rape at Juri in Moulvibazar. Later, the police arrested 3 people including the rapist and two accomplices on this charge. Last March 1 she was raped. Meanwhile, the girl ran away from home to save herself from torture and went to the police station on March 4 and filed a rape case against three people.
March 4: On March 4, the body of Jasim Uddin (35) was found after 3 days of drowning in the water of Lova river in Sylhet's Kanighat upazila. He is the son of Chhamar Ali of Bakhalchhara village of Upazila Lakshmi Prasad East UP.
According to local sources, 3 youths including Jasim Uddin were smuggling sugar sacks from India. While returning to the country, Jasim drowned in the water of the river while crossing the Lova River in the border area of ​​Afarmukh Galachipa. Two others who were with him at that time could not rescue Jasim Uddin. Later on March 4 at around 12 noon, when the body of missing Jasim Uddin floated in the Lova river, the locals recovered the body and informed the family members. On receiving the news, police went to the spot and recovered the body.
On the same day, brother-in-law was killed by uncle in Sylhet On March 4, an incident of murder of brother-in-law by uncle took place in Shahjalal suburb of Sylhet city. The incident took place in a house on Road No. 2 of E-Block in Shahjalal suburb that day around noon. Later, the police recovered the body by breaking the door at around 11:30 pm.
The murdered Mizanur Rahman Rafi (24) is the son of Abdul Bari of Maizgao, Hetimganj, Golapganj upazila. He lived with his family in the suburbs. They lived in the same house with their uncle, Abu Sufian (38), accused as the killer. He is the son of Badruddin of Borhanpur village in Barhal Union of Jokiganj, Sylhet and runs a business in the trade center at Sobahanighat. Bhagane was the manager of his shop. The police believe that the incident may have happened due to a money dispute.
March 5: On March 5, a young man from Balaganj was killed in a surprise attack on his way to attend a case in the Sylhet court. The attack on Zahedul Islam, the Balaganj upazila correspondent of Bara Bhai weekly variety Sylhet newspaper, took place around 8:30 in the morning near the Jame Masjid of Rukanpur village in North Kushiara Union of Fenchuganj Upazila, Sylhet. Junedul Islam (27) was killed in the attack by his younger brother and his brother Jahedul Islam (33) was killed. ) was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Later he was sent to Dhaka. Junedul and Jahedul are sons of Konai Mia of Kalampur village in Paschim Gouripur union of Balaganj upazila. Local sources - Junedul and Jahedul were coming to Sylhet court in a CNG autorickshaw to appear in a case. On the way, 15-20 miscreants stopped their car and ambushed them with sharp weapons as soon as their car arrived near the Jame Masjid in Rukanpur village of Fenchuganj around 8:30 am.
Suicide occurred on the same day. On the morning of March 5, Abdul Amin (48), son of Abdul Ghafoor of Rampur village of Gobindganj new market of Chatak Upazila of Sunamganj, committed suicide by hanging a rope around his neck. He was a CNG autorickshaw driver by profession. But the reason why he committed suicide is known till evening.
Such a situation prevailing in Sylhet is causing concern in the conscious circles. Conscious residents of Sylhet have strongly demanded that the law and order forces take a strict role in this situation.
Regarding the increase in violence and unrest in Sylhet, Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa of Sylhet Range DIG office said, 'In my long working experience, I can say that there are many murders in Sylhet for trivial reasons. And in fact, we no longer have family and social ties like before. No trust, no sense of value. No one wants to help anyone. So the husband is killing his wife. Wife killing her husband. The son is killing the mother and the mother is killing the son. Uncle is killing nephew. He said, people cannot be turned away from this criminal act only by legal punishment. Everyone should come forward from family, social, religious places to overcome this brutal attitude of people.
