Workers' unrest: 11 factories closed 'indefinitely in Ashulia

At least 11 factories have been closed for an indefinite period following workers' unrest in Ashulia for the last few days.

Some workers were seen coming to their respective workplaces on Saturday morning but, later, went back after seeing the closure notice.

Mohammad Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Ashulia industrial police-1, said work is going on at those factories where the workers are interested to work. Some 100 factories are remained shut, some are on the way.

Workers are protesting against the minimum wage of Tk 12,500 for garment industry workers. They are demanding Tk 23,000 as the minimum wage.

Visiting in the morning, there found almost all the factories at Jamgora, Narshinghopur, Chhoytola, Jirabo areas of the Ashulia's Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road were remain shut.
