A young man was beaten and
injured for protesting drug trade in Noakhali Sadar Upazila later he was taken
to hospital and given life support after that he died. He died on Friday
morning under life support at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Earlier, on the morning of
October 1, the deceased Mukul was the victim of a terrorist attack in Saheber
Hat Paschim Bazar of the upazila.
The deceased Humayun Kabir is
the son of Dr. Md. Abdul Quader of Abdullahpur village of Noakhali Union of
Mukul Upazila.
The deceased brother Abdul
Mabud Palash said that his brother Mukul was working in a house-a-farm project
in Senbag upazila. He used to speak against drugs and anti-social activities at
various times due to his involvement in various social activities in the area.
A few months ago, Mukul got into an argument with the drug dealer Kalam due to
his vocal protest against the drug trade. Mukul gave birth to a daughter last
September. The daughter came home to see the child.
Palash complained and said that
on the morning of October 1, Mukul went to Saheb's Hat Bazaar with his father
to buy for the newborn baby. During this pre-planned drug dealer Kalam, Omar,
Sahab Uddin, Sabuj, Raihan and their companions attacked Mukul with domestic
weapons. Mukul was seriously injured by hitting his head. Later, the locals
rescued him and admitted him first to Noakhali General Hospital and later to
Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Mukul died on Friday
morning after 1 month and 16 days while on life support.
Mukul's father, Md. Abdul
Quader, a doctor, said that after the incident, a case was filed in the police
station against the drug dealer Kalam and his associates. In that case, the
accused came on bail from the court and came to my house and threatened to kill
me to withdraw the case. We are more afraid of it. Later I did a GDO at
Sudharam police station. But the accused were not arrested.
Investigating Inspector Mizanur Rahman Pathan, who is in charge of the OC of Sudharam Model Police Station, said that a case was registered in the incident soon after the incident. Section 302 will now be added to that case. The case is now being investigated by the District Detective Police (DB).
