Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam, son of Ayub Ali of Sheikhbari village of Bhuapur upazila of Tangail, Mehedi Hasan Bablu, son of Momin Uddin Sikdar of Angarpara village of of Barguna, Atiqul Islam, son of late Azim Uddin of Hijaltali village of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur, Saidul Islam Rubel, son of Babul Mia of Latifpur village of the same upazila and Shahin Uddin, son of Ataur Rahman of Dahar village of Magura upazila of Jashore.
The bus of Itihas Paribahan collided with the auto-rickshaw carrying the victims at 11:00pm in Makishbathan area, leaving the auto-rickshaw driver and its passenger dead on the spot and three others injured, said Rahat Akond, sub-inspector of Kaliakair Police Station.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to various hospitals where three others also succumbed to their injuries.
