Water of Teesta river is flowing above the danger mark due to surge of water from upstream hills and heavy rainfall in Lalmonirhat.
As a result, low-lying areas on the left bank of the river in Lalmonirhat have been flooded.
Meanwhile, water at Teesta River Barrage at Dalia point in Hatibandha upazila in the district was recorded at 52.34 meter at 9am on Thursday flowing 19 centimeters above the danger mark.
People living on the bank of the river said water flow of the river has increased due to intermittent rain for a few days.
All gates of Teesta Barrage opened due to increase in water level.
According to people living in coastal areas, cultivated crops have been inundated with water while hundreds of families are trapped. Communications of Char areas have been snapped, they said.
