Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) arrested a person from Benapole border area for his apparent bid to smuggle four gold bars out.
The arrestee is identified as Imam Hossain Jibon, 24, son of Abdul Halim hailing from Chatanikandi village under Palong police station of Shariatpur on Tuesday.
Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, assistant director of Benapole Customs Intelligence, confirmed the arrest and recovery of the gold bars.
“Two persons were held on suspicion. During interrogation, Imam Hossain admitted to have possessed gold bars. X-ray report also confirmed existence of gold in his abdomen. Later, four gold bars were recovered,” he said.
He said customs handed over arrestee Imam to Benapole Port Police Station while released another suspect Dulal Hossain finding his innocence.
