Four people, including three members of a family, were killed when a bus collided with a battery-run van on Madhupur-Tangail-Mymensingh Highway in Tangail on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were -- Mainuuddin, 50, of Paika village in Dhanbari upazila, his wife Chahera Begum, 30, and their son Siam, 3, and van driver Farhad, 45, of the same village. All of them were the van passengers.
Locals said that the accident occurred when a speedy Tangail-bound bus of ‘Binimoy Paribahan’ collided with a Madhupur-bound battery-operated van on Madhupur-Tangail-Mymensingh regional highway in Gangair Goma bus stand area of the upazila around 2:30pm.
Two passengers of the van and the driver died on the spot.
The 3-year-old child was critically injured. Later, child was rescued and taken to the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
Madhupur Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Farhana Afroz Jamie said that three bodies were recovered from the scene and one from the hospital. Police seized the bus but the driver and his associate fled the spot immediately after the accident.
