Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the killing of police constable Moniruzzaman Talukdar in the city’s Farmgate area early Saturday.

Tejgaon division DB members nabbed the four during their drives in the capital at different times on Saturday.

Confirming the arrest news, Deputy police commissioner Md Golam Sabur said on Sunday that one of the arrested men confess to his involvement in the murder incident.

Several police teams are working to arrest the other members of the gang.

Md Moniruzzaman Talukdar, 45, was working as a constable at Tejgaon Traffic Division. He hailed from Sherpur district.

He got down from the train at Tejgaon Rail Station at around 3:30am on Saturday and was returning his workplace on foot. When he arrived at Sejan Point premises at Indira Road, a group of muggers waylaid him. At one stage of altercation, they stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Moniruzzaman was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where an on-duty doctor declared him dead. The body was sent to the morgue of the hospital.

Police suspected that muggers might have killed him.
