Md Abdul Baten, 60, top leader of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir, was detained in capital on Monday.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-2 conducted a raid at Mohammadpur area and arrested Md Abdul Baten.
Assistant Director (Media) of Rab-2 ASP Shihab Karim confirmed the arrest on Monday.
Baten is the top leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir and active member of invitation and finance department.
Baten used to distribute militant books and encourage young generation in militancy.
He had relation with Ameer of the Hizb ut-Tahrir of Bangladesh branch, ASP Shihab Karim said.
He also used to distribute anti-government leaflets and invitation letters among devotees in various mosques.
Four cases were filed against Abdul Baten with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, Hazaribagh Police Station and Daulatpur Police Station.
He is an wanted accused because anti-terrorism tribunal issued arrest warrant against him.
