The Dhaka metro rail will make stoppage at Pallabi station from 25 January. Presently the service runs between Diabari to Agargaon without any stops in between the stations after it was opened to the public on 29 December last year.

Each train will stop at Agargaon station for 10 minutes.

"Metro rail will be operated for the next four hours from 8:30am. The number of stations will be increased gradually as people get habituated to it," Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique said during a press briefing on Monday (9 January).

He said that according to the plan, the metro service will make stoppage at all stations by 26 March.

"The work of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line 1 will be inaugurated in the last week of this month. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it at a convenient time. The work for Kamalapur extension of line 6 began on 7 January," he added.

The DMTCL managing director also said that till 8 January, 90 thousand passengers traveled by metro rail, earning revenue of Tk88 lakhs.

This includes money from selling MRT passes out of use, he added.

"Since metro rail has become like a tourist attraction, single journey tickets are being sold more. Because of this, the gate of the station will be opened half an hour before the departure of the train. Again the entrance gate will be closed half an hour before the service stops," he further said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the service on 28 December last year.
