At least 15 students were injured as police charged them with batons while they were staging protest in front of National Press Club in Dhaka, demanding for second chance in university admission test.

Students from all over the country were holding a sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club from 10:30 am on Monday. Police charged batons on the protestors when they attempted to continue the programme by blocking road.

Alvi Mahmud, convener of the protest programme, said, “Police attacked us when we were holding protest peacefully in front of the Press Club demand the opportunity to sit for the university admission test for the second time. At least 15 students were injured in the attack.”

The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he added.

Shahbag Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Abul Basar of Shahbag police station said, “We asked them (students) to do the sit-in programme without blocking the road. But, they blocked the road which created public suffering. Later, we dispersed them from the road.”
