Five family members including a minor child were burnt after a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Dhamrai upazila in Dhaka early Saturday.
Injured Md Manzurul Islam, 35, wife Jochna Akhter, 25, the couple's two-year-old daughter Marium, Sadia Akhter, 19, and Hosne Ara, 20, are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn And Plastic Surgery.
MD Sufian, who took the injured to the hospital, said the explosion occurred from gas line leakage when Jochna Akhter tried to lit the gas stove early hours for cooking. The fire soon spread the house that left four other family members also injured.
Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn And Plastic Surgery doctor SM Ayub Hossain said of the five, the condition of Manzurul with 33 per cent burns, Jochna with 40 per cent and Sadia with 75 per cent burns are critical.
As the winter progresses, such incidents are increasing across the country.
