The city authorities have decided to introduce 200 more Dhaka Nagar Paribahan buses in three new routes starting September 1.
The Bus Route Rationalization Committee (BRCC) took the decision in a bid to restore order to the public transport system in Dhaka.
The announcement comes after the committee's 23rd meeting at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.
BRRC President and DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam were in attendance.
The Nagar Bhaban buses will now run on the Ghatarchar (Keraniganj) to Bhulta (Narayanganj) via Farmgate, Ghatarchar to Meghna Ghat (Kanchpur) via Bosila (Mohammadpur) and Science Lab and Ghatarchar to Narayanganj via Kakrail routes.
Late mayor of Dhaka North Anisul Islam in 2015, undertook an initiative to run buses by companies based on routes.
In 2017, after his death, the then Dhaka South Mayor Saeed Khokon took over the initiative.
On December 26, 2021, the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan started its journey from the capital’s Mohammadpur.
