Transport shortage on Dhaka roads

Transport shortage on Dhaka roads
City

Due to the sudden hike in fuel prices, transport owners in Dhaka suspended the movement of buses on the roads.

After waiting for long hours, Dhaka dwellers have been reaching their destination on foot as there was little transport on the streets which are packed with passengers.

Meanwhile, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, rickshaws (both paddle and battery run) and ride sharers were taking advantage of the untoward situation by overcharging passengers.

Bus drivers and helpers said the owners are waiting for the government to adjust the bus fares.

Hasnat Qadir, a private office employee from Khilkhet, saw the crisis of transport when he went out for his office in Tejgaon. After a long wait, he was able to board a bus.

The government on Friday night raised the prices of diesel and kerosene to Tk 114 per litre and that of petrol to Tk 135, which is nearly 52 percent higher than the current rate.
