The inauguration date for the Agargaon to Motijheel section of the Dhaka metro rail's MRT Line-6 has been deferred again.

The new opening date is scheduled for November 4.

ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, acknowledging the matter on Friday (October 20) said the service would not be opened on October 29.

The inauguration dates were being deferred for getting the schedule of the prime minister, he said.

Earlier, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, also the ruling Awami League general secretary, at a press briefing held on August 20 said that the prime minister would inaugurate the metro rail service up to Motijheel on October 20.

He, on October 1 at a party rally, again said that the service would be inaugurated on October 23.

The date was again deferred to October 29, said the ministry officials.

The cost of the country's first ever metro rail project stands at Tk33,472 crore. Notably, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided Tk19,719 crore in the form of a loan to support the project, while the government of Bangladesh funded the remaining amount.
