The non-stop rain started from Tuesday night caused waterlogging in some  low lying areas in Dhaka.

Office-goers and students in the capital suffered a lot as many roads went under water.

But the showers will abate slowly from Thursday,  according to the forecast of Meteorological Department.

The Met office has recorded 53 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours - from 6 am on Tuesday till 6 am Wednesday in Dhaka, said Mohammad Omar Faruk, a meteorologist.

Many were seen walking along the roads in the rain due to lack of vehicles. Rickshaws and CNG-run autorickshaws were seen charging commuters higher fares.

Commuters faced problems in reaching their destinations due to heavy traffic triggered by the rains as well.

According to the 24-hour forecast, parts of the Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions will experience heavy to very heavy rain.

The Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports are maintaining cautionary signal No. 3 due to squally winds.

Bogura recorded the highest rainfall among all districts at 142 mm.
