The car of Mufti Syed Mohammad Faizul Karim, the mayoral candidate backed by the Islami Andolan Bangladesh for the Barisal City Corporation, was attacked at a polling centre on Monday.
Four of his supporters were injured in the attack, he claimed.
The incident happened at about 10am at Kawnia A Quader Chowdhury School in ward no 2.
"Activists of the AL mayoral candidate barred me from entering the Kawnia centre when I tried to lodge a complaint with the presiding officer,” the Islami Andolon candidate said.
“I, along with several of my supporters, was injured in the attack,” he said.
Sanaullah, the media coordinator of the mayoral candidate, said, "Awami League men attacked on the candidates of Islami Andolon. Hearing the news, Faizul Karim went to the spot. Then his car and supporters have been attacked."
Denying the allegation made by the Islami Andolon candidate and supporters, AL activist Biddyut said they only told them that they "should not enter the polling centre with such a big crowd."
Returning Officer Humayun Kabir said they were aware of 'chaos' over entering a polling centre.
