Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with 9 gold bars weighing over 1kg at Goga border in Sharsha upazila of Benapole on Saturday night.
The arrestee is identified as Kawser Ali, 52, son of Abdul Karim of Dadkhali village in the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and arrested Kawser along with the gold worth Tk 72 lakh, said Lieutenant Colonel Tanvir Rahman, commanding officer of Khulna BGB-21 Battalion.
He also said that the arrestee will be hands over to Sharsha Police Station after filing a case against him under the Gold Smuggling Act.
