'ARSA commander' killed in gunfight at Ukhiya camp

A 'commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA)' was killed during a gunfight with Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila on Monday morning.

The incident happened at about 7am at camp no 17.

Huge number of arms, bullets, walkie-talkie, mobile phone sets and SIM cards were recovered during the drive at the camp, said 14 APBn commander additional DIG Sayed Harun-or-Rashid.

The deceased was Hosain Ahmed Kaisar, 35. He was known as Hossain Majhi.

According to DIG Harun-or-Rashid, a team of APBn conducted a raid at the camp getting a secret information that Hosain Ahmed Kaisar was staying at that camp.

Sensing their presence, ARSA members started firing aiming at poilce. The APBn team also fired back to protect themselves.

During the shootout, Kaisar died on the spot after being hit by bullet.

He was accused in several murder case, the police official said, adding that police drive in on to nab the other members.
