Alikadam Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehruba Islam has been transferred to Dhaka, following the incident of her breaking trophies after a football match in Bandarban.

A notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Shaikh Shamsul Arefin of Field Administration-2 of the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday confirmed the matter.

A video of Mehruba Islam breaking a trophy went viral on social media on Friday.

The match took place on the grounds of Reparpara Government Primary School of Chaikshyong Union of the upazila, where UNO Mehruba Islam was present as the chief guest.

The video shows that while delivering her speech at the award ceremony, the UNO suddenly lost her temper and started throwing away the trophies one after another.

Such an act drew heavy criticism from netizens overnight.

Alikadam Upazila Chairman Abul Kalam urged the authorities to take immediate action against the UNO.

He said that the local people are aggrieved and the situation can get worse.

When contacted for comment, the UNO told Dhaka Tribune that she tried to break trophies as the winning and losing teams were engaged in a quarrel over the result.

The UNO said that she repeatedly asked both the parties to be patient but they paid no heed to her request. Therefore, she threw away the trophies in a rage.
