Cumilla City polls: AL backed Rifat wins by 343 votes

Awami League nominated candidate Arfanul Haque Rifat has been unofficially elected mayor in Cumilla City Corporation.

In all 105 centres, he has bagged 50,310 votes winning by 343 votes. His nearest rival and independent candidate Monirul Haque Sakku has got 49, 967 votes.

The vote results were announced at 9: 33pm. Earlier, they were neck and neck.

Beginning at 8 am, the voting casting continued till 4pm through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

AL backed candidate contested the polls with “boat” symbol while independent Arfanul Haque Rifat with “table clock”.  

Apart from Cumilla, elections were held in five municipalities, four Upazila Parishads and 150 Union Parishads in different parts of the country.
