Coast Guard rescued 18 fishermen alive from Midhil

18 fishermen rescued alive by Coast Guard from Cox's Bazar deep sea after their engine broke down under the influence of Cyclone 'Midhili'.

Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this information on Saturday afternoon.

He said that on November 14, 2023, a fishing trawler named FB "Mayer Doa" went to the deep sea from Majhir Ghat in Tekpara area of Cox's Bazar for fishing. At one stage, due to the adverse weather caused by Cyclone Midhili, the engine broke down and the trawler floated uncontrollably in the sea. After the cyclone, Coast Guard Station Cox's Bazar, Inani and regular patrol work of Coast Guard "Operation Samudra Prahra" was conducted under the command of Captain Noor Mohammad Tariq Aziz, the captain of Coast Guard ship Mansoor Ali, in rough seas. During the operation, on Saturday, November 18, at approximately 0100 hours, 18 fishermen were rescued alive along with the fishing trawler named FB Mayer Doa, which was floating in the sea area approximately 21 nautical miles deep from Cox's Bazar Light House. Rescued fishermen are given first aid and food. Then the boat with the fishermen was brought by the Coast Guard ship to Cox's Bazar coast.

Later, the Coast Guard contacted the owners of the fishing boats and handed over the fishermen to the owners, he added.
