Rail communication to and from Chattogram has snapped following a fire in tyre godown in the Dewanhat area, which is right next to the rail tracks.
The fire started at around 1pm on Saturday (29 April) and is yet to be brought under control.
A total 12 firefighting units are currently working to bring the blaze under control.
Speaking with The Business Standard, Ratan Kumar Chowdhury, manager of Chattogram Railway Station, said, "The origin of the fire is very close to our railway tracks.
"Thus, railway connectivity from Chattogram to Dhaka, Sylhet and the rest of the country has been suspended."
"No trains are currently entering or leaving Chattogram station. Operations will resume once the fire is brought under control," he added.
No casualties have been reported in the fire.
