To increase the production of
paddy in Boro season at Gopalganj, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Gopalganj
regional office has distributed free hybrid and upsi rice seeds among the
farmers.
Director of Administration and
General Services Department of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Dr. Muhammad
Abdul Latif was present as the chief guest of the program and distributed these
seeds.
Under the chairmanship of Rice
Research Institute Gopalganj regional office Mo Zahidul Islam, scientific officers
of the office Srijan Chandra Das and Khalid Hasan Tarek and Deputy Assistant
Agriculture Officer of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parvati Bairagi spoke. Later, a
field day was held on Bri-Dhan 103 with the farmers of Gopalganj Sadar,
Tungipara and Mollahat upazilas.
Director of Administration and
General Services Department of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Dr. Muhammad
Abdul Latif said Bri-Dhan 103 is a high yielding rice of Amon season. Its yield
is about 6 tons per hectare which is much more than the local variety. He said
that the yield of hybrid rice varieties Bri hybrid 3, Bri hybrid 5 and Bri
hybrid 8 for Boro season is higher than other hybrid rice brought from abroad.
The government is going to stop sowing foreign hybrid rice seeds from 2025. Therefore,
he called upon all the farmers to come forward in the cultivation of hybrid and
Upsi rice developed by Bri.
Md. Zahidul Islam, Incharge of Rice Research Institute Gopalganj Regional Office, said that the yield of Bri Rice 103, a variety of Upsi rice developed by Bri, is more than that of Bri Rice 86, which was popular before. This rice is very suitable for cultivation in the environment of Gopalganj and its surrounding areas. He said if this rice is cultivated, the farmer will be more profitable.
