Yesterday, October 18, 2023, is the 60th birthday of martyred Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. To highlight the life of Child Rasel to children and teenagers, his birthday has been declared as 'Sheikh Rasel Day'. For the third time in the state, the theme of ``Sheikh Ruael Day 2023'' is ``Sheikh Rasel Radiant, Fearless Nirmal Durjoy''. Sheikh Rasel, the younger brother of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on this day in 1964 at the historic memorial-studded Bangabandhu Bhavan in Dhanmondi. On August 15, 1975, the child Sheikh Russell did not escape from the ruthless bullets of the hateful killers, the enemies of humanity. He was brutally killed along with Bangabandhu.
On the occasion of Sheikh Rasel's birthday, Bangladesh Coast Guard observed the day with due dignity and solemnity. Special prayers and special discussions on the biography of Sheikh Russell were organized in all zones, bases and ships including Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters. Director General Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Ashraful Haque Chowdhury, NBP, BCGM, NDU, AFWC, PSC was present as the chief guest in the special prayer organized at the Coast Guard Headquarters.
