The nomination papers
of 5 parliamentary constituencies in the upcoming national elections of
Narayanganj district have been scrutinized. Among them, the nomination papers
of 38 people including all the nominated candidates of Awami League and Jatiya
Party have been declared valid. And the nomination papers of 7 people have been
cancelled. 45 people filed nomination papers in 5 constituencies of the
district.
This verification was
done in the conference room of the office of the Deputy Commissioner and
Returning Officer at 10 am on Monday.
Deputy
Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Mahmudul Haque gave this
information.
He said that the
nomination papers of independent candidates have been canceled due to various
reasons including the signature of one percent of the total voters, not filling
the form correctly, defaulting on loans. However, the disqualified candidates
can appeal to regain their candidature.
Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj) Constituency of one out of 10 candidates has been cancelled.
Bangladesh Supreme Party. Afaz Uddin Mollah's candidature was canceled due to
non-deposit of security deposit. The candidature of 9 people including Awami
League's Golam Dastgir Ghazi, Jatiya Party's Saiful Islam, Trinamool BNP's
advocate Timur Alam Khandkar, and Awami League's rebel candidate Shahjahan
Bhuiyan were declared valid.
Nomination papers of 2 out of 6 candidates have been canceled in Narayanganj-2
(Araihajar) constituency. Among them, independent candidate GK Mamun Didar's
candidature was canceled as he did not fill the nomination form properly.
Besides, independent candidate Haji Md. Sharifur Islam's candidature was
canceled due to his credit card default. In this seat, the candidacy of Nazrul
Islam Babu of Awami League and Alamgir Sikder Lotan of Jatiya Party and the
remaining four candidates were declared valid.
Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon) Constituency 2 out of 13 candidates have been
declared cancelled. Among them, Jamil Mizi of Zaker Party was canceled as his
loan defaulter as a guarantor. For the same reason, the candidature of
Bangladesh Congress candidate Md. Sirajul Haque was cancelled. In this seat,
the nomination papers of Abdullah Al Qaiser of Awami League and Liaqat Hossain
Khoka of Jatiya Party were declared valid.
In Narayanganj-4 (Fatulla-Siddhirganj) constituency, nomination papers of 2 out
of 11 candidates have been declared invalid. Among them, independent candidates
Md. Rashedul Islam and Kazi Delwar Hossain had an average of one percent
signatures of the total voters, so their candidatures were declared void. In
this seat, Shamim Osman of Awami League, Chalauddin Khoka of Jatiya Party and
the remaining 9 candidates were declared valid.
Nomination papers of all 5 candidates in Narayanganj-5 (Sadar-Bandar)
constituencies are declared valid. Awami League has not given any candidate for
this seat. The candidature of Jatiya Party MP AKM Salim Osman and others were
declared valid.
