Two held with 6 gold bars in Meherpur. Police have arrested two people with six gold bars in Meherpur.
They were arrested from Shib Mondir area of Meherpur town at around 5:45am on Wednesday.
The arrestees were identified as Masud Rana, 24, son of late Abdul Mannan of Bandar area of Narayanganj and Kaniz Fatema, 40, wife of Sheikh Ashraful Kabir of Moghbazar area of the city.
A patrol team of Meherpur police station stopped them at Shib Mondir area on suspicion after they return to Meherpur from Dhala on a bus. Later, six gold bars were recovered searching their bodies, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said.
The estimated value of the gold bars is Tk 46.80 lakh.
In primary interrogation, the arrestees said that they brought the gold bars from Dhaka to smuggle those to India with the help of a UP member of Meherpur border.
Process is underway to hand over them to court after filing a case against them with Meherpur Sadar police station.
