Four pedestrians were killed as a covered van ran them over on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Mahmudabazar Machineghar area in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Farukh Miah, 55, son of Foyez Ali, of Mirzapur union of the upazila, Mustakim, 40, son of Abu Toiyab Miah, of Nilkhuthi area, Ripon Miah, son of Sentu Miah, of Mahmudabad area and Bachchu Miah, 56, son of Jonab Ali.
Bhairab highway police said, a Sylhet-bound covered van ran four pedestrians over and fell into the roadside ditch after losing control around 8am. Three of them died on the spot and another was taken to Bhairab hospital where he died there.
In this connection, Mozammel Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Bhairab Highway Police Station, said we are primarily suspecting that the incident took place after the covered van driver fell asleep.
