Farmers in the district have begun planting T-Aman (Transplanted Aman) fixing the cultivation target on 111000 hectares of land this year.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources, farmers already cultivated T-Aman on 100 hectares of land till July 18.
The office said 31000 hectares of land with a production target of 90294 tons rice has been fixed in Jamalpur sadar while 15210 hectares with a production target of 44626 tons in Sarishabari, 17060 hectares with a production target of 49252 tons in Melandah, 10730 hectares with a production target 29408 tons in Islampur, 8655 hectares with a production target 27022 tons in Dewanganj, 15110 hectares with a production target 46464 tons in Madarganj and 13235 hectares with a production target 45128 tons in Bakshiganj.
The agriculture department sources said the farmers prepared 95 percent of T- Aman seed bed against the target 5381 hectares of land. The office said being the district is flood prone farmers prepare more seed bed against the target.
Aiming to increase food production, 12000 small and marginal farmers in all the seven upazilas of the district got incentive for cultivation of T-Aman.
Deputy Director, DAE, Zakia Sultana said, to increase food production, incentive on T-Aman cultivation was disbursed among the farmers in the district.
