Local upazila administration has imposed section 144 at Sadar upazila in Rangamati district to avert any untoward situation as ruling Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) called back-to-back programmes at the same venue.
The upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Nazma Binte Amin issued a notification over the matter on Monday with effect from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesday in BhedBhedi Bazar and its adjacent areas.
During this period, all kinds of meetings, processions, public gatherings as well as gatherings of four or more people and all the activities contrary to law and order will be prohibited, it said.
However, the restriction will not be applicable for government officials and the people engaged in emergency services, regular work and law enforcement.
Earlier, the district unit BNP called a demonstration at BhedBhedi Bazar protesting the price hike of fuel and essential commodities while AL wants to organise a discussion meeting at the same venue.
Due to the programmes of the two major parties in the country, there is a fear of disruption to law and order in the area.
UNO Nazma said they will take stern action if anyone tries to break the prohibition.
