Customs officials on Thursday detained a passenger and seized 1.244 kilograms of gold and 9 kilograms of lead at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
The detainee was Masud Rana who hailed from Jamalpur district.
"Masud Rana arrived at Chattogram Shah Amanat Airport from Dubai by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BGB-148 at about 7:00am on Thursday (June 16). Later, gold ornaments and lead were detected inside his luggage. Then he was arrested and questioned," said AKM Sultan Mahmud, deputy director of Customs Intelligence.
Process is on to file a case against the passenger under the Customs Act, he said. Besides, the gold ornaments and lead would be deposited to the Customs' treasury, he added.
