The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has cleared the way for setting up a cattle market in Aftabnaga area of the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
A bench of the Appellate Division, led by Justice Obaidul Hasan, on Wednesday passed the order staying a High Court (HC) verdict that postponed the decision to set up the cattle market in the area.
Earlier, the High Court on May 22 has postponed the decision to set up a cattle market in Aftabnagar of the capital for a week ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. At the same time, the court issued a ruling regarding the cancellation of the lease.
A High Court bench comprising of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury gave this order after hearing the writ filed in public interest.
On May 15, the writ was filed in the High Court seeking direction not to set up a cattle market in the area on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Lawyer Md Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in public interest demanding environmental protection.
