The hearing on the rule over the legality of suspension of Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam ended on Tuesday. The High Court will deliver its verdict on the issue on Thursday (March 30).
An HC bench of Justice Jafar Ahmed and Justice Md Bashir Ullah set the date today after hearing.
The hearing on the rule started on March 15.
On August 23, last year, the High Court issued a rule asking why Jahangir Alam's suspension from the mayor post would no be declared illegal.
Local government secretaries and concerned authorities have been asked to explain within two weeks.
On November 19, 2021, the ruling Awami League expelled Jahangir Alam from his position in the party after videos of Alam making derogatory comments on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyred freedom fighters of the Liberation War at a program went viral on social media.
A few days later, he was suspended as the Gazipur City Corporation mayor by the local government ministry over various allegations.
