Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the practices of giving nomination in exchange of money must come to an end in the party.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the triennial conference of the Khilgaon Thana Unit of Awami League and 1, 2, 3, and 75 wards of the party at Khilgaon Model College premises in the capital on Wednesday (October 26).

Obaidul Quader said: "You save the party. Stop dealings with money. It may be a practice in BNP that money will be required to form committees, but Awami League can't get indulge in such a practice. The practice of giving nomination in exchange of money must have to be stopped forever. It's Sheikh Hasina's directive."

At the conference, the AL general secretary also directed the party leaders to bring an end to quarrels inside the party and back-biting against each other.

Addressing the BNP, Obaidul Quader said BNP now demands amendment to the constitution to incorporate the caretaker government provision. "We will make BNP understand in December next how do they dare to seek amendment to the constitution."

"You'll hear the roaring sound of sea in December. Just wait for a while. Bring the ghost of caretaker government from your head. There's no benefit thinking about caretaker government," he said.

Obaidul Quader said, BNP makes tall talks about [foreign exchange] reserves. You talk about electricity. Do you remember about running out? Did there any scarcity of electricity and gas in the country before global crises? The party goes to Gulshan and Baridhara to lodge complaints. They have become Bangladesh Nalish Party. They don't feel any shame, rather they know how to make complaints.
