A new horizon will open up with the fall of government, BNP Secretary General Mirza  Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

Speaking at a brief rally before the party's road march at the BNP central office premises at Nayapaltan in the capital on Saturday (August 19) afternoon, he made the remark.

Dhaka City North and South BNP jointly organised the road march to press home the demands of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's unconditional release and advanced treatment.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "We, all the political parties, have been struggling to press home our one point demand. This one point movement also involves Khaleda Zia's release. The BNP Chairperson has been battling for her life at the hospital. The government will have to bear all the responsibilities if any happens to her during her confinement."

He said Begum Khaleda Zia is not only a leader of the Indian Sub-continent, she is also a leader of the democratic movement in Asia. Khaleda Zia was arrested before the general elections in 2018. She has still remained detained. She must be freed as soon as possible. She has got admitted to hospital. She is very sick.

"If anything happens to Begum Khaleda Zia, the government will have to carry all the responsibilities," he said.

The BNP leader said it was the reign of Begum Khaleda Zia when the free education for girls was introduced. Her contributions can't be narrated by saying one after another.

Referring to the present government led by Sheikh Hasina, Fakhrul said, "It's an unconstitutional and illegal government. They have remained sitting on the shoulders of people over the long 15 years. Now, they want a free and fair election for democracy."

Regarding the arrest of BNP leaders and workers across the country, Mirza Fakhrul said," BNP leaders and workers can't stay at their homes. Police have been harassing them. This government has destroyed everything right from the judiciary. We want the resignation of this government. We hope that will be a good election where voters will be able to cast their ballots. So, still there is time. Don't arrest BNP leaders and workers, don't raid their houses employing police. Release Begum Khaleda Zia. Resign from power accepting one point demand as early as possible."
