Vote counting in Cumilla City Corporation election is going on after ending of the election in a peaceful manner.

Awami League candidate Arfanul Huque Rifat has bagged 47,863 votes, while Independent candidate Monirul Huque Sakku got 48,92 votes, according to the results received from 101, out of 105 centres.

Besides, another Independent candidate Nizamuddin Kaiser received 28,142 votes.

Earlier, voting was conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs) from 8:00am to 4:00pm without any break.

Apart from the Cumilla City Corporation, elections on Wednesday held at four more upazila parishads and over 150 union parishads (UPs) across the country.

Voters started thronging the polling centres from the morning. Visiting different police centres, it was found that the presence of female voters was higher compared to male voters. No indiscipline was seen at anywhere during the voting.

According to the Returning Officer's office, there were a total of 2,29,920 voters in the election. Of them, 1,17,092 are female voters, while 1,12,826 are male voters. And, two voters belonged to the third gender.
