Sanjay (Gopalganj) Correspondent:
There has been a large production of fish by pen culture
method in Gopalganj. This year, about two hundred fishermen associations of the
district have benefited from this method of fish farming. In this method of
fish farming the farmers are getting more profit as compared to the pond as the
cost of food is very less.
Most of Gopalganj's bills are submerged in water for six to
seven months from the beginning of monsoon to winter. During this time pen
culture fish farming became very profitable. In addition to giving 13
exhibitions in five upazilas of the district under the native species fish and
snail conservation project, more than two hundred associations formed through
initiative have cultivated pane fish this year. In this, large areas of the
bill are made or fenced with fish farming. The production of these fish in the
natural environment of the bill is more than that of the pond. Farmers are
benefiting from this method of fish farming.
The district fisheries officer of Gopalganj said that in pen
method of fish farming, fry fish increase about five times within 4-5 months.
It consumes less food than ponds and produces more.
Pen culture method means that this fish is produced in the natural environment of the bill and it is very good. Fishery officials believe that it is possible to increase the production of fish if uncultivated land is brought under fish farming in this way.
